VASP failure on AMD dual-core dual-cpu cluster
After intensive testing of several weeks, we have come to the following conclusion:
1. paralle VASP on a dual-core dual-cpu AMD Opteron cluster will fail when more than 2 cores are used.
2. parallel VASP on a dual-core single-cpu AMD Opteron cluster works as single-core dual-cpu or single-cpu AMD Opteron cluster with any number of core/cpu.
The compilation were completed without error message, but test cases failed at the initial stage of the computing. There is no meaningful information from the output.
We have tried various combination of compiler, LAM/MPICH options but failed to make VASP work on our dual-core dual-CPU ipteron cluster.
Perhaps someone has done the similar thing on his cluster, and we like to confirm there is a bug some where in the code or in Opteron design. Any suggestion/hints is welcome.
